Rick Hansell's Research

Research Interests:

The Atmospheric Science Department at UCLA has a suite of broadband radiometers that are being used to monitor both the short wave and long wave irradiance. Global, direct-normal and diffuse measurements are recorded on a daily basis every minute. We are also in process of setting up an 8-channel sun-photometer where we will be able to retrieve the aerosol optical depths at each wavelength. My interests are in aerosol particle physics and how it effects the radiation transfer in our atmosphere. I want to find new ways of parameterizing the physical properties of aerosols in the current RT models based on radiometric measurements obtained through both surface and space based platforms.
